There is also a gallery scene showcasing talented local artists, as well as visiting collections from artists all over the world.

Enjoy a performance in the historic Sarasota Opera House or watch the Ballet or Orchestra. The Van Wezel plays host to a varied array of artists and touring performances throughout the year and the world famous Asolo Theater stages up to 15 productions each season of new and classic works. Spend an afternoon strolling through the park along downtown Sarasota’s bayfront or enjoy the white sand beaches that define the area. There is something to delight visitor and resident alike.

Between the tranquil waters of Sarasota Bay, and the wide open Gulf of Mexico, the Sarasota area boasts nearly unlimited opportunities for boaters, anglers, and water sport lovers of all stripes.

The City of Bradenton was discovered in 1539 by the explorer Hernando DeSoto. The area that would eventually become Bradenton was incorporated on May 19, 1903. Originally named Bradentown, the city took its name from Dr. Joseph Braden, whose nearby fort-like house was a refuge for early settlers during Seminole Indian attacks. The current city of Bradenton was formed in 1943, when the Florida legislature merged the cities of Manatee and Bradentown.
Well known as the spring training site for the Pittsburgh Pirates and home to the internationally-famous Nick Bollitieri Tennis Academy, completed Riverwalk features something for everyone. A skate park, splash fountain and a 400 seat ampitheater are just a few of the attractions that Bradenton is newly renowned for its burgeoning arts scene. Other noteworthy attractions include the DeSoto National Memorial and The South Florida Museum, home to Snooty, the oldest living manatee in the world. The recently opened Riverwalk has dining, open air entertainment, and a skate park to offer. In addition, there is also a pavilion and event area for festivals and fairs and a day dock for boating and canoe and boat launch.
